While its weird episodic release schedule made many players think that the latest entry in the Hitman series was going to be a low-effort experiment rather than a fully-fledged sequel, that perception couldn't have been further from the truth.

In fact, the latest incarnation of Hitman is the best the series has been in years. Returning to the philosophy of older releases like Blood Money rather than following in the linear footsteps of Absolution, each episode of the latest game dropped players into a massive sandbox and let them loose to take out their targets in whatever wacky ways they could come up with.

And in many ways, the decision to split the game up into episodes actually benefited the release in the long run. Developers knew fans would be playing and replaying these isolated levels for potentially months before a new episode dropped, meaning there needed to be enough variety and content to keep players coming back for more.

What that resulted in is now the game can be bought as a full package is some of the strongest and most replayable sandboxes in the whole of the Hitman franchise, and easily one of the best stealth games of the generation.
