1. Rainbow Six: Siege

At a time where multiplayer shooters were trying to be as big and as expansive as they could be, Ubisoft's Rainbow Six: Siege was committed to moving in the opposite direction.

Shunning huge battlefields for intimate 5v5 matches where each player has only one life per round, the intense shooter offered a more tactical alternative to other games on the market.

Unfortunately after releases like Titanfall and Star Wars: Battlefront, players were rightly wary of multiplayer-only games, meaning that Siege was treated rather harshly when it first hit shelves.

It didn't help either that in classic Ubisoft fashion the game was incredibly buggy at launch, with lag and crashes making the title unplayable for some during the first couple of weeks.

It's since improved massively however, and currently Siege is one of the most interesting multiplayer experiences you can get your hands on. There's nothing that comes close to it on console, and the constant stream of free updates has ensured that there's always a new reason to jump back in.
