9. Pyramid Head "Attacks" Mannequins - Silent Hill 2
The Image: Um, how can we put this? It's one monster dry-humping two other monsters. Good enough for you? Why It's So Powerful: Video games commonly indulge in graphic violence to the point that, in a sense, we've mostly become desensitised to exploding heads and fountains of gore. Something that the medium has generally steered clear of so far, however, is sexual violence, considering its seriousness and the fact that it's not something one should be wantonly throwing into a relaxing video game. Konami really pushed our buttons, then, when we met Silent Hill's iconic antagonist Pyramid Head in Silent Hill 2, and what's the first thing we see him doing? Molesting two mannequin monsters, and though it's debatable whether this is in fact a rape, it's certainly inappropriate congress of some kind, and incredibly disturbing to look at. The Silent Hill series is full of vile imagery, though this one hit us the hardest, because the idea of a monster having these crushing sexual desires is simply something we don't want to think about. Of course, Pyramid Head is considered by many to simply be a reflection of protagonist James' own subconscious sexual frustration, but that does little to take away from how sick this image makes us feel.
