20 Most Powerful Gaming Moments Of All Time

10. Bioshock (2007) €“- Welcome To Rapture

2K Games

The Moment: The player is unceremoniously thrust into a mysterious under water city, fully furnished in the Art Deco style of the 1920s, and is forced to immediately fend for themselves. The minimalist story telling only serves in heightening the tense sense of mystery of this strange place and how your nameless, faceless character comes to find themselves here. Slowly, the details begin to fill themselves in. A banner decrying €œ'No Gods or Kings, Only Man'€ is the first indication of Rapture'€™s nature €“- an attempt at a utopia where the individual could evade the control of both the state and religion.

How Is It Powerful? In a genre inundated with romps through WWII Normandy and using your M4 to pick off nameless insurgents from 180-yards, Bioshock was an incredible attempt to breathe some much needed ingenuity into the FPS genre. From the very first moment you step foot into Rapture, it becomes abundantly clear that 2K Boston was successful in their efforts. From the beautifully realised water effects to the distant cackles of the insane inhabitants, Rapture is the resulting product of when advanced technology meets incredibly creative minds who are willing to push it to its limits.
