20 Most Powerful Gaming Moments Of All Time
7. Pokémon Red/Blue (1996) - Capturing MewTwo
The Moment: On your long quest to become the very best like no one ever was on Pokémon Red and/or Blue, you inevitably gotta catch 'em all. After acquiring every gym badge, the elusive legendary birds, and a tonne of interesting little Pokémon, there will be one last monster eluding your near-exhaustive collection: the incredibly rare and mighty MewTwo.
Not only will you have to search in the deep, dark depths of the Cerulean Cave but you will also have to utilise a painstakingly picked party of your most battle-hardened Pokémon to stand a chance of overcoming the psychic behemoth. We say overcome but that isnt really the goal here; you actually have to weaken MewTwo until it has but a fraction of its health left allowing you to use a pokéball to bag it. Accidentally killing MewTwo after putting in so much effort weakening it is one of gaming's great moments of frustration, though that discussion is for a different list.
How Is It Powerful? It is probably accurate to say that, whether it was Yellow, Red, Blue, Gold, Silver, we all spent copious lengths of time in our younger years with our eyes fixated to the low-resolution screen of early Game Boys playing Pokémon. After hundreds of hours spent catching, training, and battling, to finally complete that Pokédex and have definitive confirmation that you are the greatest Pokémon trainer in the world gives you a feeling of genuine accomplishment.
It's without doubt the most powerful moment in handheld gaming, with the ability to make you jump out of your seat and yell with joy on the bus as your quest is finally completed.
