20 Most Powerful Gaming Moments Of All Time

6. Journey (2012) €“ The Ending

The Moment: What makes Journey so interesting is that it€™'s a social game with very few social elements. The only way to communicate with the strangers you encounter in-game is through a series of high pitched noises. You aren'€™t even made aware of their PlayStation ID until the game is over. Despite this, you are compelled to help the stranger along their journey too.

This all cumulates in the climb of a snow-covered mountain encountering extremely harsh winds. It is at this point that the characters die. Or do they? It€™s open to interpretation. However, when you wake up from €˜death€™, you have a renewed state of energy which enables you to finally reach the end of your journey.

How Is It Powerful? Journey forces you to forge a bond with someone, and you can€™'t judge them by their screen name or avatar or the questionable games they'€™ve been playing (we know you€™re all guilty of it). It is this bond that makes not only the ending but the entire game so powerful.

The point of Journey is that the ending is what you make of it €“- the entire game has been your personal journey. You actually start to care about the people you€™'re playing with and that is powerful in its own right.
