20 Recent Indies That Put AAA To Shame
11. R.E.P.O. Repeats Its Predecessor's Path Of Success
If you need any more proof to see that you don’t need huge production budgets and cutting-edge graphics to top the charts, Lethal Company’s spiritual successor, R.E.P.O., is another co-op survival game that dominated the Steam page against all of its AAA competition.
Compared to Lethal Company, R.E.P.O. is less serious about its horror aspects. The playable characters are tin cans with googly eyes and funny voices, but despite this, it still manages to be a deeply atmospheric experience that will keep you and your friends entertained for hours.
The gameplay loop of the game is stupidly addicting, following the scheme of Lethal Company, but it adds a lot of innovative ideas of its own, which is why shortly after the former game was losing popularity, R.E.P.O. managed to repeat its path to success, even when it was still in early access in February of this year.
The game achieves something most AAA titles don’t—it provides a simple but seriously entertaining multiplayer experience that lets you spend some quality time with your friends without being constantly bombarded with mechanics designed to make you purchase random goodies.
You get exactly what you pay for.
