20 Ridiculously Low Game Ratings You Won’t Believe

14. Samurai Warriors: 73 (PS2)/71(Xbox)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfRpfIR3a9o Samurai Warriors was Koei€™s first attempt at launching a spin-off of it€™s mega popular Dynasty Warrior franchise. As the title suggests, it focuses on Samurai during the Sengoku period of Japanese history, rather than Chinese heroes during the Three Kingdoms period. Many of the Samurai Warriors characters had appeared in the very first Dynasty Warriors game as unlockable characters (back when it was a 3D fighter ala Soul Calibur), so it was only natural to give those guys and gals their own game. The first Samurai Warriors game was different in many ways from later iterations of the series. Instead of the punchy colors the warriors games tend to have, it was very drab and moody looking. It made the tone of the game different, giving it a much more serious feel. Add to that the ability to give your characters permanent €œperks€ many years before Call of Duty ever implemented a very similar system. So what did the reviewers find fault with? The colors, the €œrepetitive gameplay€, and that it €œdoesn€™t innovate€. The thing is, all of that is just a handful of cranky reviewers already predisposed against the Warrior franchise. It's understandable that the concept gets worn out for some, but that's not a good excuse for a professional reviewer.
