20 Scariest Video Games Of All-Time
12. Slender: The Eight Pages
Probably the most obscure and lesser known entry on our list is this one. Slender: The Eight Pages is the only indie title to make the cut, and despite the fact that it's fairly basic, it ranks as one of the most terrifying games ever made. What is it, then, that makes the idea of a "thin" man so downright terrifying?
There's something inherently creepy about the idea of such a man coming after you - trying to catch you. It's this concept that drives Slender: The Eight Pages, as you're left in a woods to find clues whilst being pursued by such a thing. As you attempt to find the pages of the game's title, the Slender Man gets closer and closer to you, appearing around corners at random, emerging behind you, and generally doing awful, awful things to launch your stomach up to where your mouth should be.
It's such a simple idea, and yet the atmosphere inherent to the game - and the creepy design of the Slender Man himself - ensures that this is one of the most uncomfortable games you'll ever play. At about 30 minutes, it's short. But you wouldn't want any more time than that.
