20 Severely Underrated 90s Video Games You Forgot You Loved

12. Blast Corps - N64, 1997

When Rare conceived this largely-forgotten N64 gem, they did so with the logic that "If you knock down buildings, it will be fun". Say no more, Rare, I'm sold! Blast Corps tasks you with the simple objective of destroying buildings so that a rogue nuclear missile carrier can pass through the area without blowing everything up. It seems like a bit of a plot-hole that you're levelling whole towns to prevent a scene of mass-destruction, but let's just ignore that and focus on the gameplay, shall we? You control eight vehicles across 57 levels, each with their unique destructive capabilities. There's a very pure kind of joy to smashing up rows of townhouses with a truck that had two giant extending arms, or launching a buggy from clifftops to smash down into the houses below. But the two most memorable machines of destruction were the giant death robots, Thunderfist and the Cyclone Suit, which were capable of smashing through buildings like bratty kids through sandcastles. While the game was capable of inducing hair-tearing frustration, it remains an overlooked gem in Rare's stellar N64 catalogue. Thankfully, Blast Corps' dedicated fanbase insisted that it appear in Rare's 30-strong 'Replay' collection, which was released on Xbox One in August 2015, so you can now pummel buildings into the ground in lovely HD!
