20 Severely Underrated 90s Video Games You Forgot You Loved

4. Syphon Filter - PSX, 1999

Special Agent Gabe Logan's adventures continued long after the days of the PS One, but they were mostly forgettable attempts to revive a series whose most impressive outing was its very first one. Syphon Filter was one of the first games to adeptly combine action, puzzle-solving and stealth gameplay. Unfortunately, it was pipped to the post by Metal Gear Solid - which pretty much eclipsed any game within a five-year diameter of it. People who played Syphon Filter will never forget that long-range taser weapon, which would send enemies up in smoke, and eventually in flames, as you manically laughed at their excruciatingly realistic screams of agony. The action sequences were intense, often pitting you in large street battles surrounded by both enemies and allies. The game was one of the most complete, realistic and globe-trotting secret-agent-adventures of its time, but the series regrettably got worse with each successive sequel; ok, the PSP games were OK, but were completely overlooked because, well, PSP.
