20 Severely Underrated PS1 Games You Totally Missed
3. Tail Concerto
https://youtu.be/7K8kYn7EUuI Have you ever wondered what a Hayao Miyazaki movie turned into an 3D action platformer would be like? Then this is your game. Tail Concerto came about when CyberConnect noticed the popularity of Super Mario 64 and Nights Into Dreams on their respective consoles. They made a proposal to Bandai to make a similar game for the PSX, to which they jumped at the chance. Tail Concerto plays similarly to games like Mega Man Legends, where you navigate various fields and town areas, before going into different platforming stages. You play as a anthropomorphic police dog in a small police mech, chasing down a gang of cat pirates. You can run, jump, climb, and hover while platforming. In combat, the weapons depend on the situation. You can grab or shoot a bubble at the small kitten pirates, while you can lob missiles at the ships and mech that the cats ride around in. In all, it makes for a very exciting experience. One of the hidden gems of the PSX era, TC was released by Atlus in the US, and although it got some exposure with magazine ads, was hard to come by at retail. What this means is it remains rather expensive on the secondary market. The cheapest used copy at Amazon is $71, with no western PS Store release available either. Luckily, the Japanese PS Store has it, but it remains un-translated. Its well worth the effort though.
