20 Severely Underrated PS4 Games You Must Play

8. Warframe

Here's a controversial thought; microtransation-structured games aren't necessarily the antichrist. They most certainly can be, but the idea of giving you a free base game that comes complete with a huge amount of content is a great one. The problem comes when developers choose to gate said content behind a paywall, as oppose to letting players who want to keep grinding or plugging away unlock it through sheer progression alone. Warframe is a title that embraces both sides, and although it's very on-the-nose when comes to displaying its "Click here to purchase this!" prompts, its third-person gun n' blade combo gameplay is satisfying and fun enough to prop everything up nicely. Essentially you want to forget about the state this was in at launch; now developers Digital Extremes have completely reworked every aspect from the ground up. Now it's essentially a hybrid of Destiny's deploy-and-recover-loot structure, with the gameplay of little-known Xbox gem Brute Force. The end result is a fully-customisable action title that sees you visit a huge amount of worlds, exploring and gathering resources simultaneously as you bolster both your own superhuman character's armour, their abilities and even your own ship. Such a potentially money-hungry approach won't be for everyone, but give this a shot - it's free anyway - and see what you think. It's pretty amazing just how much has changed and improved regardless.
