20 Severely Underrated Video Games From The 2000s

5. Knights Of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

Following up on the greatest Star Wars game of all time can't be an easy task, but for Obsidian it was a proper trial by fire - since the developers were brought on before the first game was even released, they only had a skeleton of a summary to work with, which had to then be rewritten to accommodate what BioWare had done. And since LucasArts was keen on keeping to schedule, Obsidian was forced to push the game through to release months ahead of schedule. To be clear: these guys were asked to build the entire game from scratch in a little over a year. When you consider all the variables, it's nothing short of miraculous that KOTOR II even turned out as well as it did. Yet, over the years the sequel's developed a reputation as a "good, but inferior" sequel, which is a bit unfair, as KOTOR II managed to outclass it's predecessor in more than a few areas; chief among them: the story. You're placed in control of a renegade Jedi, referred to simply as "The Exile". It's dark days for the Jedi order, and their ranks grow thinner as they're hunted down and eliminated by the Sith. Things aren't as cut-and-dry as they once were, and If the first KOTOR was a battle between good and evil, then the question in this one is: do the words "good" and "evil" even really mean anything anymore? KOTOR 2 is all about the grey areas, and this was reflected in your ability to train your companions in the dark ways of the Sith if you so wished. Were the old ways of the Jedi worth upholding? It was up to you.
