18 Stupidly Tiny Things Only Gamers Will Appreciate
3. When A Game Knows What You're Doing
Breaking the fourth wall and addressing the viewer (or player) is something gaming always does far better than any other medium, a trait that's especially memorable when you're off experimenting with something and a respective title calls you out on it. In particular there's the Marco Polo easter egg in Uncharted 2 - where going for a quick swim in a pool prompts Drake to call out "Marco!", but better yet is the opening of indie gem Bastion, as if you decide to smash apart some scenery with your newly-minted hammer, the game's narrator will acknowledge it in his raspy voice with "The boy just thrashed around for a while". Honestly, when it happens, it's brilliant.
