If you don't want spoilers for Alien: Isolation, then now is your chance to skip to the next section.

Late on in the game, players will encounter an alien nest bursting with eggs and crawling (literally) with facehuggers. In Aliens, it was revealed that only Xenomorph Queens have the ability to lay eggs. However, those who have managed to survive the horrors of Isolation will confirm that there's no Queen to be seen in the game.

This was not always the case, though.

According to an interview with lead game designer Gary Napper, there were originally plans to imply that a Queen was definitely present. However, the team felt like this would seem like the game was building up to a boss fight with the queen, which they believed wasn't in line with the tone they were aiming for.

That being said, the official art book for the game states that a queen is present, even if she's never onscreen.
