20 Things You Didn't Know About Uncharted

8. Getting Crash Bandicoot In Uncharted 4 Wasn't As Easy As You'd Think

Before Uncharted, Naughty Dog was known as the studio that developed the Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter games.

With Crash in particular, they helped make the PlayStation brand the household name it quickly became, so when the furry little troublemaker made a surprise appearance in Uncharted 4, you probably assumed that the logistics behind said appearance were relatively simple. A PlayStation icon making a cameo in a PS4 exclusive... easy, right?

Well, not so much, apparently.

According to directors Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann (via VentureBeat), getting Crash in Uncharted 4 was "pure luck of the draw". At first, they were told that it couldn't happen, and so, the team started working on a different old-school game to include instead. Fortunately, negotiations then took a more positive turn, and they were given the go-ahead to use Crash.

Activision has owned the rights to the character for quite some time, which is probably what caused that initial holdup.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
