20 Video Game Hard Modes For True Masochists

4. Infernal - Resident Evil Revelations

The Resident Evil series boasts a pretty impressive collection of messed-up difficulty settings, but Resident Evil Revelations is almost unanimously considered to feature the most punishing hard mode in the entire franchise—Infernal.

Described as the game mode designed to “test the limits of your sanity” (this is how you know you’re in for a grand time), Infernal does what other special hard settings in other Resident Evil games do, plus a whole bunch of other unnecessarily cruel changes to the regular gameplay.

The enemies deal devastating amounts of damage, they are more resilient, and your supplies are limited, as per standard Resident Evil difficulty rules, but on top of that, some crucial items are hidden from you, and the puzzles in the game are made more complicated.

As if fighting powerful bosses much earlier than you normally would wasn’t enough pain, Infernal makes virtually every element of the gameplay feel like a Sisyphean task. Even the simplest objective is changed to be as inconvenient as possible, which is why you really have to ask if you’re playing this game mode for fun or just because you feel obligated to experience everything it has to offer.

They weren’t joking with that “testing the limits of your sanity” part.
