20 Video Games That Defined 20 Years Of PlayStation
17. Wipeout
The very first Wipeout showed how games could benefit from the CD medium back in 1995 by featuring actual tracks from bands like The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers instead of the usual ear-bleeding MIDI renditions that sounded like musical diarrhea. Since then the series has enjoyed a long life on PlayStation consoles, with its games having a reputation for pushing the hardware further than most. This climaxed in the release of Wipeout HD on the PS3 that ran at a full 1080p resolution and supported 3D. Even 5 years after its initial release, it's still one of the most graphically impressive titles to ever grace the system. The future of Wipeout remains uncertain, as its developer Studio Liverpool sadly closed its doors last year. Its a damn shame as Wipeout was consistently brilliant and arguably took the crown from F-Zero as the best futuristic, anti-gravity racing series around.
