This is not a game for people who are sensitive to religious motifs, as it was built based on creator Edmund McMillen's impressions on the duality of religion, specifically Christianity. In terms of aesthetics, if you are familiar with Super Meat Boy, McMillen's previous game, then you will have an idea in what direction this title is headed.

Rebirth is both an improvement and expansion on the original game (simply titled The Binding Of Isaac) which initially came out as a PC title running on Adobe Flash. Rebirth, as the base console version, has expansions (Afterbirth and Afterbirth Plus) available for purchase as extra content, whereas the Switch has Afterbirth Plus as the available version for the system.

The game employs randomly generated dungeons for players to progress through alongside random power-ups to find and use. Each dungeon has a boss and a power-up and as you progress you accumulate the abilities to become stronger and develop new strategies. However, this can all be undone by a permadeath feature that sees you start all over again so it's best to progress with enthusiastic caution.
