19. Titanfall 2 (2016)
PC: 86% | PS4: 89% | XBO: 87%
Following Titanfall's Xbox and PC exclusivity alongside an online only multiplayer game mode, Titanfall 2 added a much appreciated single-player campaign and became available on all platforms.
What makes this touted sequel different from other available first-person shooters is its approach to the single-player campaign, and the mechanics employed that make multiplayer a blast.
The campaign isn't simply a run-gun-and-take-cover affair but mixes up play styles as the story progresses while allowing a level of freedom in completing the objectives. The multiplayer has improved on the mechanics of its predecessor, has more free content, and essentially was the building block to Apex Legends.
In spite of all these positives, the game did not perform well commercially because it was released right after Battlefield 1, and just before Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The release period gave gamers a bloated FPS window, and it gave Titanfall a very minimal chance to perform as it was up against established titles in the industry.
For those who were on the fence with this game, now would be a risk-free time to see why many considered it 2016's game of the year.
