1. Dark Souls 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPJaJ5ys_G0 OK, up until now, my list really was in no particular order. However, I saved this one for last, because it is my own personal most anticipated game of 2013, and I know I'm not alone. You could almost hear the collective cry of joy across cyberspace when Dark Souls 2 was announced at the Spike Video Game Awards. Actually the third release in the "Souls" franchise, following 2009's Demon's Souls and 2011's Dark Souls, is slated to hit PC's, PS3's and 360's at some point in 2013. Why it will be awesome: If you're one of those masochistic, and blessed, gamers who have had the good fortune of having these games sink their hooks into you, then you know what I'm talking about. No other games this generation have demanded so much from those who play them, and in return, no other games have given so much back. These are among the deepest, most intense, most complicated, most challenging, and most thrilling and satisfying games to release during this console cycle. Dark Souls, in many ways, greatly improved the Demon's Souls formula, and it shouldn't be considered a leap of faith to believe that Dark Souls 2 will be the best game in this franchise yet. While the masterminds at From Software have indicated that Dark Souls 2 will be a "more understandable" game, Dark Souls 2 will surely retain the challenging, satisfying gameplay while refining the open-world design they introduced with Dark Souls. Dark Souls 2 should be a great place for gamers new to the franchise to start, and veterans should have no doubt that From Software will deliver on this sequel. Prepare to die all over again, and love every minute of it. There is no doubt that 2013 is going to be a great year for our hobby. The number of excellent games releasing in 2013 goes even beyond the ones in this list, not to mention the swarm of unannounced indie games that will surely flood digital marketplaces across all gaming platforms. The gaming community is going to be full with speculation, hype, and excitement for new hardware and new trends that will be affecting the gaming world in 2013 and beyond. But in the midst of all this, don't forget that ultimately, it's the games that make the gaming world go round, and be sure to take a break from all the hype whenever you can, in order to dig into some of the many great releases that are coming in 2013. It's the best time ever to be a gamer, and we are all very lucky to be able to be a part of this. May the New Year be a Happy one for you and yours!
