18. Iorweth - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt

Depending on your choices in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Geralt of Rivia encounters a mistrusting elf called Iorweth. Initially seeing Geralt as a tool for the humans rulers, Iorweth later views the white-haired warrior as one of his few true friends. Due to the character's positive reception, fans were miffed when the wary elf didn't feature in the follow-up.

But not only was Iorweth planned to return in The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, he was meant to appear in various quests, primarily one centred around the lethal Catriona plague. In this section, Geralt would be forced to make an unsteady alliance with Iorweth, Roche, and others to locate a cure. A rudimentary but playable build of this questline exists, indicating it was dismissed late into production.

Despite his absence, Iorweth's legacy endures in The Witcher III, since he's mentioned in dialogues and pops up as a Gwent card. Nevertheless, it was disappointing to see Iorweth be physically absent, considering several threads from the previous game surrounding his character remained unresolved.
