20. Ape Escape
The first game to require the newly-minted original DualShock controller, Sony's first-party developed platformer was so much more than a tech demo. To this day it's extremely fun to play thanks to some truly innovate control schemes that incorporated the twin analogue sticks across a rift of ape-capturing gadgets. Need to row a boat? You'll do so with half-circle motions of the sticks, got a new rotary helicopter upgrade? Spin the right stick like your life depended on it to take off. Even the act of capturing the rogue monkeys themselves meant you had to flick the stick as though you were hooking them over with a real net. https://youtu.be/PhOPVx4c_XU?t=333 Top the whole thing off with a timely anime aesthetic, beautiful graphics and a string of worlds packed full of chimps to locate and bring home, and there's not a 90s gamer in sight who wasn't completely blown away by this.
