20 Years Of PlayStation: 20 Best Video Games So Far

19. SSX

Sadly SSX Tricky went multi-platform, making this original instalment the one that tends to get looked back on as Sony's baby. A launch game on the PS2, EA offshoot-studio BIG were trying to establish a reputation as a developer that favoured absolute balls-to-the-wall stunts and trick-runs over anything remotely realistic. As such, SSX was a resounding success. It played like a dream, gave you a slew of characters who'd scream out at the apex of their jumps, and most importantly - had what felt like a staggering amount of tricks to combine using the shoulder buttons into eight-digit leaderboard smashers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwcnL278wwA Everything here was polished to a mirror sheen, from the way the music cut out as you soared higher and higher, to the rigid sound of your board carving through the ice. Burning off down a mountain in SSX was one hell of a satisfying experience, and although the series may be on EA's backburner these days, a return to its former heights would be phenomenal.
