21 Best Character Debuts In Gaming History

16. Revolver Ocelot (Metal Gear Solid)

"Six bullets, more than enough to kill anything that moves" Although the fight itself would be whipped up into an over-the-top animé-esque tornado of backflips and slow-motion bullet-dodges in Twin Snakes, the original MGS Ocelot showdown introduced the character in a fantastically haunting way, as just as you approached the strung-up Kenneth Baker wired to a series of posts with some explosives, a bullet came out of nowhere and made Snake leap back out of pure reflec-action. Then, emerging from the darkness with that Southern drawl accent that would become so iconic over time, Ocelot details the scenario the three of you now find yourselves in - whilst also twirling a single revolver in his hand throughout. It's thanks to Hideo Kojima's excellent direction in this scene that we see the gun before we actually see Revolver himself, and it's also down to some incredibly neat sound effects that bring to life every twirl and flick of the wrist that Ocelot displays. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-w2r2wM41q0#t=2363 Instantly we knew we'd finally found an opponent that was going to be more formidable that the other Genome soldiers - and he was one that was just effortlessly cool - that second he shouts "Draw!" and we cut back to gameplay, the MGS series had written itself into gaming's nostalgia books with ease.
