When you've got access to one of the best modern strategy games on earth, one that single-handedly crossed over into mainstream recognition and ushered in thousands of gamers to the genre itself - you should probably keep that up by ensuring everyone can get their hands on it. XCOM basically pits you in a humans vs. aliens fight for earth, your team being specced out in all manner of ways before any firefight before you'll dictate where to place them and when to execute tactics on the field, one step at a time. It's this way of exploring the world bit by bit that makes for some of the most intense pendulum-swings in gaming. One minute you're advancing incrementally up the field, the next all manner of hell breaks loose as you have to figure out exactly how you're going to survive and precisely which tactics will see your team emerge in one piece. It's thrilling stuff, especially when you factor in that if someone dies, they're gone for good - losing all your upgrades along the way. Sadly, as of right now this sequel remains PC-only, but what's on offer here truly supersedes anything outside PC territory in a huge way.
