There were quite a few not-so-great press conferences this year, but none of them were as jaw-droppingly disappointing as Nintendo's balls-up of a digital event. Everyone knew EA would probably spend too long on sports and Ubisoft would be the harbingers of cringe as usual, but Nintendo really needed to come out swinging this year if they wanted to give the Wii U one final, hard sell ahead of the NX's unveiling next year. But the event all-but confirmed that the company are already moving on from their doomed console, with the likes of Zelda and Metroid staying far away, while the conference instead focused on handheld games and, gulp, those damn Amiibos. Star Fox Zero looked fun, but in terms of AAA Wii U content, it was otherwise totally bone dry. The social networking infuriation was quite a picture of rage to behold, indeed.
