Verdict: Easily the best Call of Duty game in the series to date, Modern Warfare 2 features a brutal, action-packed campaign and the franchise's most addictive multiplayer suite. The campaign is hard-hitting and particularly controversial for its skippable "No Russian" mission (which features the player taking part in an airport massacre as an undercover cop), but as ever, it's the online multiplayer that cements this one as a classic.

There's not a single dud map in the bunch, featuring a number of all-timer maps such as Afghan, High Rise, Invasion, Karachi, the tiny Rust, Scrapyard, and probably the best map from any CoD game, Terminal.
