5. God Of War III
The God of War series provides the player with the ultimate power fantasy as you to take control of Kratos and hack and slash through the greatest hits of Greek mythology. Each installment topped the last with new and savage ways to kill things, culminating in God Of War 3, which, thanks to the enhanced graphics of the PS3, rendered the carnage in greater detail.
This is a game that begins with the brutal beating and death of Poseidon, and it is genuinely painful to watch. From there the game sees Kratos climb his way up the hierarchy of Olympus, killing off gods in increasingly horrible ways.
Some of these deaths are actually hard to watch, which presents Kratoss rage in an entirely new context. God Of War 3 is the only game in the series so far where you feel sympathy for his victims, and the copious amounts of highly detailed gore adds to this feeling immensely.
