17. High Charity Suite - Halo 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=MyTlVIaOEjU If any suite from Halo 2 deserves a rightful place on this list, it's the "High Charity Suite" from the self-titled level High Charity. Out of all the suites on Vol. 2 of the Halo 2 soundtrack, "High Charity Suite" is the most clear-cut one due to its spot in the campaign. Near the game's climax events pick up fast and easy, and conflicts are both resolved and started that set the game in a totally different direction then how it started, setting up the stage for Halo 3. It's the final two levels of Halo 2 that brought the most surprises, with the second to last level as the Master Chief's final gameplay segment in the game, with the last level played by the Arbiter. Master Chief's given level, High Charity, for its incredibly short length, pulls a few surprises in both story and audio. The "High Charity Suite" ushers in multiple different vantage points that are quite appealing to both a visual and audio standpoint: - When the Flood break into High Charity, it sets everything into a tailspin and brings an end to both the Covenant hierarchy and the civil ties to both Sangheili (Elites) and Jiralhanae (Brutes). - The Prophet of Mercy is consumed by the Flood, leaving only the Prophet of Truth in command of the rest of the Covenant armada. - Alone and surrounded by destruction, the Master Chief must fight through both Flood and Covenant to reach Truth and stop him from leaving for Earth. - The Master Chief must leave Cortana behind in order to prevent the firing of the Halo ring, as she can manually detonate High Charity from the inside via the crashed human ship, In Amber Clad. He departs for Earth while she remains on High Charity. So the "High Charity Suite" has all this drama weighing in on it, and the audio explains all of it with clear and emotional detail. It marked the first time in Halo 2 where the music picked up to a sentimental crescendo, and where it succeeded was stating that the Covenant was coming to and end, the Chief and Cortana would end up apart, and the battle for humanity (and the rest of all sentient life later on) raged on.
