12. Daymare: 1998 Started As A Fan-Made Resident Evil 2 Remake

In a series about failed experiments and cloning, it seems prophetic that imitators of Resident Evil would pop up. Daymare: 1998 goes one further, however, as it started off as an unofficial remake of Resident Evil 2. Hence the '1998' moniker: the year RE2 came out.

Pretty obvious to some.

Capcom got wind and ordered a cease and desist. But it wasn't all bad, as original RE3: Nemesis director Kazuhiro Aoyama joined as Associate Producer, adding a bit of clout to it.

It's not... the best game out there, but it isn't without its moments. It does pay homage to the series it's trying to emulate, though. Brownie point for that.
