Like many amazing things in life, Cloud and Sephiroth are presented as a duo on this list because they are, in this context, at least, equally important and inseparable. You'd never eat a hot dog before first smothering it in ketchup and/or mustard, after all. Right about now is the point in which most people are going to be screaming the name Zack Fair while reading this entry, but let's be honest; as cool as Aerith's first love is, he's not exactly iconic, even if Cloud did essentially base his entire post-coma life on the guy. Besides, there's a reason why Square Enix are remaking Final Fantasy VII and not Crisis Core. After almost two decades of trying to put the past behind them and attempt to to trump the popularity of both characters, the Japanese developer finally put their hands up and surrendered to fan demand for a remake. In just a few years, we'll get to relive the entire story all over again, and that includes having to deal with Cloud being a whiny man-child for most of it. But hey, there's still Sephiroth. "The reunion is at hand."
