25 PlayStation Games You Must Play Before You're 25
16. Ratchet & Clank (2016)
It's very, very rare that a remake manages to surpass the original, but with Insomniac going back to the well after a couple of flat-hitting original ideas (RIP, Fuse), revisiting Ratchet & Clank to apply everything they'd learned in the interim years only resulted in a spectacular platformer.
Now, rather than be a basic third-person hop, skip n' jumper or an over-shoulder shooter, it's both. Just alternate between holding the left-trigger to snap the camera behind Ratchet, and effortlessly the game is a meld of those original titles and their focus on exploration and timing, alongside the gun-filled delights of the sequels.
As you can see it looks gorgeous too, a real showcase for the PS4's power, and as the story is a self-aware take on the source material (Captain Qwark tells the story in retrospect) it allows Insomniac to just have fun with a number of fourth-wall breaking elements and in-jokes.
If you've been waiting for the return of third-person platforming, it's right here.
