15. Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver
Although if you look close enough, it would appear Legacy of Kain hasn't completely turned to dust, the franchise has at least been six feet under since 2003's LoK: Defiance (no, FPS Nosgoth doesn't count).
Still, it's testament to how outstanding the original releases truly were, that fans are always eager to badger Crystal Dynamics for another return to Nosgoth.
Playing as the revenge-fuelled Raziel, you're a half-vampire, half-spectre of death only seeking the head of Kain himself - a perfect setup for the Shakespearean tale that unfurls. Voice actors Michael Bell and Simon Templeman are absolutely phenomenal as Raziel and Kain respectively, amping up the regal nature of their situation as protagonist and antagonist - a duelling narrative tango that would last them multiple sequels and spin-offs.
All the platforming and level design applied from the Gex series twinned with the genius mind of Amy Hennig (who'd later go on to bring you Uncharted), LoK: Soul Reaver is an exemplary action-platformer with a killer tone and level of engagement.
