If he released today, chances are the quirky and downright loveable nature of Abe would be hand-waved away as some sort of strange indie project with a fart-happy sense of humour, but in the days before the internet this particular Mudokon's journey was embraced with open arms.

Chances are, as a child you barely made it out the first few screens (this game's puzzle elements were no joke), but developers Oddworld Inhabitants' crafted a wonderfully macabre yet ultimately charming world, comprising various species to interact with, and intricate levels to memorise or get lost in.

The original game was given the full-on remaster treatment in 2014, but it's this original (with the original fart soundbite, dammit) that has to be played in full.
