Case in point; Resident Evil 4's Verdugo boss battle. Resident Evil 4 is widely hailed as the perfect fusion of traditional survival horror and pulse-pounding action, and this battle ups the fear factor to offer the game's scariest sequence outside of the village attack. With Verdugo able to strike out at you at any moment - and at any angle, including from above - the suspense is multiplied tenfold. And if that's not enough, he's impossible to outrun, meaning that your only option was to empty enough bullets into him to at least slow him down a bit. All of these factors combined to make the Verdugo sequence the most terrifying encounter of the game, with the added tension of claustrophobia to boot.
