4. Super Mario Galaxy (2007)
Judged on its entertainment value alone, Super Mario Galaxy might well be the most enjoyable game ever made. For every single second of its sprawling, endlessly imaginative length, this long-awaited masterpiece feels like a true labour of love, as players steer Mario on a quest across a beautifully designed universe built out of unique and inventive galaxies and planets. In short, Super Mario Galaxy is wholly irresistible - a modern platform game to end all platform games. It's true that its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2, is just as good (if not better), but there's something about the creative power inherent to Mario's original space-based adventure that just give it the edge. If you avoided getting a Wii back in the day, then you ultimately avoided having, like, the best time with a game imaginable.
