In recent years, the Call of Duty franchise has been lambasted for its failure to grown and repetitive gameplay; there was a time, however, when this explosive series was a little less Michael Bay. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, then, is game that everybody should have experienced - not really for its single player campaign, but for what it has (or had, rather) to offer players online. There was, after all, nothing quite as thrilling as slowly mastering Modern Warfare 2's insanely addictive multiplayer mode. The game engine itself felt sleek, intelligent and was ever so comfortable to get to grips with, whilst the painfully difficult spec-ops mode offered hardcore gamers a number of insane challenges that they could spend years trying to accomplish. On the strength of its multiplayer options alone, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was a title you really could not afford to miss.
