2. Super Mario 64
Jump forward to 1996 and the Nintendo 64, concerns were high about the launch line up for the new console. It was easy to see why, in the US only two games were available for gamers to pick up on day one, Pilot Wings and Super Mario 64. Although Pilot Wings was a good game in its own right, Super Mario 64 would go on to change gaming forever. Hailed as revolutionary by many critics Mario 64 was the first game ever to have a free camera, allowing players to explore a 3D world like never before. Despite taking less than two years to develop Super Mario 64 went on to be the N64s best selling title, shifting 11 million units worldwide, and shaping the future of 3D platforming in the process. Without it the Nintendo 64 may have died a quick death with gamers seeing no reason to rush out and buy the new system.
