Very few games can match the action-packed gameplay of Contra - walking from left to right while blasting everything in sight is effortlessly fun.
The third game in the series is arguably the best, thanks to highly polished gameplay and a new focus on complex level design. Contra III allows players to scale poles and ceilings as well as destroy buildings and scenery, offering new ways to complete levels.
It also marks the introduction of top-view stages into the series - these offered a radically different approach to the game and broke up the non-stop scrolling action quite nicely. Definitely well worth revisiting.
