30 Classic SNES Games You Must Play Before You Die
22. Earthbound
Earthbound was finally given a worldwide release in 2013 on the Wii U, after years of fan lobbying. With so many phenomenal RPGs released on the SNES, why did Earthbound receive such a massive cult following?
Largely because it's one of the most unique titles ever created. It's a witty game which isn't afraid to poke fun at 90s culture but it's also incredibly poignant at times - the final battle, in particular, is renowned for being harrowing and unnerving in equal measure.
Beneath the cartoony exterior, Earthbound is remarkably well written with a difficult yet rewarding battle system - it's well worth a visit, if only to learn who exactly Ness from Smash Bros is.
