30 Greatest RPG Video Games Of All Time

19. Mass Effect

This is where Commander Shepherd's journey began back in 2007. When played now, it's surprising just how different it is - gameplay wise - from the sequels. Interactive storytelling was the term thrown about most when describing Mass Effect, and you can see why.

With its much loved dialogue and morality system, fully customisable Commander Shepherd, brilliant combat and the ability to freely roam the galaxy, the first Mass Effect set the tone for what was to come.

As is the case with a lot of trilogies, everyone has their own favourite Mass Effect game, some even consider this to be the best.
