11. Fallout 3

Moving on from the series' previous isometric viewpoint, part 3 brought the Fallout name to a whole new generation of fans.

Now with the first/third person views, the game was often refereed to as 'Oblivion with guns'. Set in the atomic wasteland of Washington D.C., Fallout 3 was praised for its combination of first-person shooter mechanics and RPG elements. While the optional use of the V.A.TS. system, giving the player the ability to target individual body parts in combat, was one of Fallout 3's best features.

With moral choices (set off a nuke if you want), great writing, and plenty of attributes that affected how you play, Fallout 3 gave the RPG genre a much needed shot in the arm when it was released.
