22. Doom Keeps It Old School, No Falling Damage Or Regenerating Health

Proving it's not pandering to expectations of modern games, Doom's lengthy demo proved that the game will be keeping things old school no matter how awesome the graphics get. While raising Hell in, Hell, actually, the player character falls from a huge height and sustains no falling damage whatsoever, text at the bottom of the screen simply signalling "impact compensation", accompanied by an electronic beep (presumably from the player's armoured suit). All that "realism" crap would just weigh a game like Doom down. Another thankfully retained feature is the lack of regenerating health or shields, which thanks to the likes of Halo and Call of Duty is a mechanic that's largely consumed the FPS genre. True to the arcadey roots of the original series, this Doom reboot is sticking to its guns.
