39. EA Unconvincingly Claims That Passion Is What Gets Them Up In The Morning

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHJMMMka8UE EA CEO Andrew Wilson took to the stage during their largely dire press conference this year to provide an introductory spiel about the company's mission statement moving forward. It was your usual marketing rhetoric for a while until Wilson began to speak about the idea of play, and rather hilariously said, "for us at EA, our passion for play is what inspires us to get up in the morning." Of course, for anyone who knows anything about EA, it's a sentence that's practically impossible to take seriously, and Twitter naturally had plenty of fun mocking the disingenuous comment, which Wilson impressively said with a totally straight face. Their annualised franchises and general lack of respect for their customers is why they won The Consumerist's Worst Company in America award two years running in 2012 and 2013, before the depths of Comcast's scumbaggery beat them to it in 2014. It's cringe-worthy and unconvincing when even good companies claim that it's "all for the gamers", but this just didn't go down well at all, and rightly so.
