4 Pokémon Spin-Off Games Worth Playing (And 4 To AVOID)

2. AVOID - Pokemon Battle Revolution

Pokemon Battle Revolution could technically be considered to be either the third outing for either the Stadium series or the Colosseum/XD series, given that it incorporated features from both.

Its core appeal was the offering of online play, but this was a barebones affair with just two choices, letting players test their mettle against either a friend or a random person in a single match. Without the presence of tournaments or other novelty match options, these got dull and repetitive very quickly and soon resulted in a dead community, with fans flocking to the online offerings of Diamond & Pearl to get their combat fix.

The offline gameplay was similarly limited, with there being no RPG mode in the vein of Colosseum/XD. The different arenas, each of which came with different parameters (such as team battles or battles where the Pokémon of the player and their opponent are randomly allocated to each other), were enjoyable enough, but quickly beaten with minimal challenge.

All in all, the game felt more like a expensive 3D expansion to Diamond & Pearl rather than a fully fledged game in its own right, as without connecting these it was very limited - only six Pokemon can ever be used if none are transferred over, for example.

Just over a million copies were sold worldwide, meaning that we haven't seen another Stadium-style title since.
