4 Potential RPG's That Would Be A License To Print Money

2. Final Fantasy VI-IX HD Remakes

Everybody has their own opinion about which Final Fantasy was the greatest. Purists will often cite the hugely immersive Final Fantasy VI or Final Fantasy Tactics, whilst individuals whose first exposure to the series came through the original Playstation will likely plump for Final Fantasy VII, the game that first made the series a phenomenon in the Western world. There's no one right answer, of course, but the general consensus is that the golden period of the series was from the release of Final Fantasy VI in 1994 to the time that the series made the transition to the Playstation 2 (and voice acting) with Final Fantasy X in 2001. In that seven year period, five truly outstanding games were released. Apart from a port of Final Fantasy VI on the Game Boy Advance, a more recent version for mobile phones that we'll mutually agree to never speak of again and the HD remastering of Final Fantasy X and its sequel, Final Fantasy X-2 (which is loved and loathed in equal measure), however, none of them have ever been remade. There have been teases such as the Final Fantasy VII tech demo that was used as part of the initial marketing campaign for the Playstation 3 or the recent Steam ports of VII and VIII, however. This is despite both widespread clamouring from fans and the fact that earlier titles in the series (Final Fantasies I through IV) have now been re-released on numerous occasions, even though IV is the only title from the series' earlier years to have truly stood the test of time. The sales of the Final Fantasy X and X-2 remasters last year greatly boosted Square Enix's financial situation, whilst their quality reminded the world that the company are still in fact capable of making great games following a string of disappointing releases. As a result of this, you'd think they'd be rushing to fast-track other re-releases in the same vein (as Nintendo seem to be doing with Zelda titles), if only for the financial benefits. Nothing of the sort seems forthcoming, however, and the already decades-long wait continues...
