4. Sherlock Holmes
Being another investigative style world, Sherlock Holmes shares many of the traits of TinTin that I see making it a great game. However a Sherlock Holmes game could be much more difficult and gritty than TinTin. They could go the dark, gritty route with this Sherlock title, or they could go with the movie-style comedy and action. Either way would make a great game but I imagine the darker, more story-driven route would make more sense for this title. Theres a wealth of Sherlock stories to use as inspiration or to directly take from, including
TheHound of the Baskervilles and
The Valley of Fear, and a long list of characters including Watson and Moriarty that could all appear. A lot of Sherlock Holmes should surround investigation and clue-solving. Contrary to the ease of puzzles in other Telltale titles, the puzzles in a Sherlock Holmes game should be really challenging and important. One interesting idea they could adopt would be to incorporate an
LA Noire style notebook with clues. Doing this would mean that any clues you pick up at crime scenes are vital to solving crimes and interviewing people. This would be a really interesting dynamic to add to a point-and-click game and like
The Walking Dead would mean your decisions and actions would actually mean something. Before the movies, Sherlock Holmes wasnt known for his action. Yes the character could handle himself physically but he wasnt used to forest shoot-outs and dodging explosions. I imagine a more up-close and personal style of action would suit a Sherlock Holmes game, like in The Walking Dead when its just you trying to fend off a single walker. For example an intense knife-fight would be really gripping and exciting to play. Sherlock Holmes is a character known throughout the world and with several TV shows and a hugely successful movie franchise, starring Robert Downey Jr, Sherlock Holmes popularity has never been higher. Again like TinTin, the time is ripe for a Sherlock game. Possibly more than any other I think Sherlock Holmes makes the most sense with a point-and-click game. With the obvious crime solving, clue-finding and close-up action, I think this would make for a really great and challenging game.
