5 Heavy Bands Who Sampled Popular Video Games

4. Vein - "Progenitor" Sampled Resident Evil

Boston Mas natives Vein have been one of the industry's best kept secrets since their formation in 2013. The hardcore band have only just hit their stride with the release of last year's debut record Errorzone, which alternative news site Revolver proclaimed as one of the best records of 2018.

Before this, the band existed with a medley of E.P.'s, the most popular of which is a four track collection called Self-Destruct. The second song from this extended preview contains the quartet's standout "Progenitor". Listen closely to the first few seconds and you get a blast from the past.

"Remember you are dealing with the human form"

The song's intro contains a phrase heard from the point of view of Resident Evil character and Umbrella Pharmaceuticals test subject Lisa Trevor. Hearing the cronenberg's recollections recounted in the introduction sets a theme of dissonance that rings out for the remainder of the track.

The song also shares a name with the ancient RNA retrovirus used in the game to completely mutilate human DNA. The band clearly took some influence for the vile nature of their work from Capcom's survival horror epics.
